CBSE schools asked to observe School Swachhta campaign till November 15

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools in the city have again received a circular from the board to observe School Swachhta campaign.

According to the circular, the campaign will have to be started by all schools from November 1 to 15 and this time around, they have been asked to invite a technician, who will use a model and demonstrate how the toilets work and give information about how to maintain the flush system.

While some schools claim they will have to follow the circular, some feel they may not be able to do it due to the upcoming Diwali vacation.

Soon, the schools of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct the School Swachhta Campaign on their campuses. They have also been asked not only to hold poster making competitions or Nukkad Natak/skit, but also have seminars for all stakeholders on sanitation by inviting experts associated with health and hygiene.

The seminar will also aim to raise awareness and mobilise the local community to adopt methods for safe disposal of human waste, share ideas for innovative latrine models and cost-effective water purifiers, which can be placed at busy public places.

For the students, a demonstration on how to fix the flush system is an added skill to learn. Schools have been suggested to have a similar demonstration during their science exhibition, where students can demonstrate their knowledge and exhibit innovative latrine models to visitors.

Volunteers from each class have been asked to choose who will take turns, house wise, to visit classes and share information about maintaining cleanliness on the school premises and toilets, and personal hygiene. The best house will be awarded by the school with a trophy at the end of the academic session, states the circular.

Dipshikha Srivastava, principal of Rajhans Vidyalaya, Andheri said: "We have not yet checked the circular. But if it has come on CBSE website, then we will have to definitely hold the campaign."

One of the principal on condition of anonymity said, "We have exams going on and the next week Diwali vacation will start. It will be difficult to hold the campaign for schools in the given time."
