Around 113 people were injured in a stone-pelting incidents on railway tracks in the last 6.5 years according to the RTI report. The RTI report also declared that police has registered the 118 stone-pelting incidents so far. Shocking statistics also revealed that police has only managed to solve 21 cases and the rest are under investigation.

In 2005, the Bombay high court had passed an order to the railway authorities to set safety boundaries from both the side to avoid such untoward incidents. However, Railways have still not completed the work.

Mumbai has around one crore passengers everyday. Due to overcrowding most of the people stand by the doors. Many instances of accidents and stone-pelting incidents have come forward in the past. In 2013 to 2019 around 118 stone-pelting cases have been reported to railway police where 113 passengers were injured. However, police managed to arrest 20 people. RTI activist, Shakil Ahmed Shaikh has filed RTI in this regard.

In shocking numbers in Central Railway between CST to Karjat station around 84 stone-pelting incidents occurred where 81 people were injured. However, GRP police solved only 15 cases and has arrested 13 accused so far. In harbour line between Wadala to Panvel, around 21 stone-pelting incident occurred and 18 people were injured. Where GRP police managed to arrest only six accused so far. In Western Railway between Churchgate to Palghar around 13 stone-pelting incidents occurred were 14 people injured. Where police only arrested one accused and solved one case.
