Keir Starmer is set to become Britain's next Prime Minister as his Labour Party secured a landslide victory in the UK parliamentary election after 14 years. This victory marks a significant shift from five years ago when Labour experienced its worst performance since 1935.

Keir Starmer, a former human rights lawyer and public prosecutor, will now channel his tireless work ethic and methodical approach into addressing the country's issues. At 61 years old, he will be the oldest individual to assume the role of British Prime Minister in nearly half a century, just nine years after his initial election to parliament.

Born on September 2, 1962, Keir Rodney Starmer grew up in a modest home on the outskirts of London, with a seriously ill mother and an emotionally distant father. He had three siblings, one of whom had learning difficulties. His parents were avid animal lovers who rescued donkeys.

Starmer, a talented musician, took violin lessons at school alongside Norman Cook, later known as DJ Fatboy Slim. After studying law at the universities of Leeds and Oxford, he dedicated himself to leftist causes, defending trade unions, anti-McDonald's activists, and death row inmates abroad.

Starmer is also friends with human rights lawyer Amal Clooney from their time at the same legal practice, and he once recounted a memorable lunch with her and her husband, actor George Clooney.

Starmer's journey towards political prominence began in 2003 with a role ensuring police in Northern Ireland complied with human rights legislation. In 2008, he was appointed director of public prosecutions (DPP) for England and Wales under Prime Minister Gordon Brown. During his tenure as DPP from 2008 to 2013, Starmer led high-profile prosecutions, including those of MPs for expenses abuses, journalists for phone hacking, and young rioters during widespread unrest.

Despite being knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, Starmer seldom uses the title "Sir." He was elected a Member of Parliament in 2015, representing a constituency in north London. Tragically, just weeks before his election, his mother passed away from a rare joint disease that had left her immobile for many years.

In 2020, Starmer was elected leader of Britain's Labour Party following its worst general election defeat in 85 years. Under his leadership, Labour has effectively leveraged years of economic difficulties and political turmoil under the Conservative Party, which now faces a diminished parliamentary majority.
