Union minister of state for communications and IT Gurudas Kamat today condemned MNS president Raj Thackeray for blaming the spread of Malaria on migrants and described his remarks as "unfortunate".

In a statement issued here, Kamat who represents the Mumbai North West parliamentary seat, said Raj Thackeray had no constructive suggestion to solve such problems but create tensions amongst the city's population of all languages and regions staying peacefully in Mumbai.

"The repeated attempts at maligning Muslims or migrants has become a nuisance and needs to be nipped in the bud," he said.

Kamat said the MNS chief's family is a migrant family from Indore who came to settle in Mumbai. "He had no moral right to point a finger at other migrants staying peacefully and legally in the city with all the right given to them by the Constitution of India," he added.

Kamat appealed to chief minister Ashok Chavan and the municipal administration to meet the challenge of spread of Malarial Fever and Swine Flu in some areas, by ensuring enough
medication and prompt treatment.
