Trial runs on the second phase of the pilot Bus Transit Corridor (BRT)—from Moolchand to Delhi Gate, will not start from tomorrow as scheduled earlier, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit said today.

She said that her government was not in any hurry to throw open the stretch as it wanted to make sure that all faults and problems that were identified in the first phase are not repeated.

"We are not in hurry to open the stretch. There have been some problems in the first phase. We are not taking any chances in the second phase," she told reporters.

The decision to throw open the stretch on September one was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehra on July 17. The meeting was attended by all the stakeholders, including officials from the Transport Department and Delhi Police's Traffic Department.

Officials said construction of the 8.7-km stretch has yet not finished. The Transport department had asked the Traffic Police to take steps to ensure lane segregation on the corridor for buses and other vehicles after construction activities are completed.

Unlike the first phase of the corridor from Ambedkar Nagar to Moolchand, the second phase does not have any physical lane segregation.
