The inclusion of Damien Martyn in the Rajasthan Royals’ squad for IPL 3 has been a subject of curiosity.

After all, why did Shane Warne, a master tactician, bid for Martyn, the 35-year-old former Australian batsman in a fast-paced format? Martyn was never known to be a big-hitter anyway!

Sean Morris, chief executive officer of Rajasthan Royals, said the management felt that Martyn can make a difference the way Warne did in the first edition of the Indian Premier League.

“It is not about the age...we always look at the balance of the team. A player like Damien Martyn will add balance. Martyn’s job won’t be to stand at the other end alone but to guide the youngsters.

“The youngsters will get to learn and benefit from a classical player like him. On the other hand we have players like Adam Voges who can hit big too,” Morris said on the sidelines of a tie-up between Rajasthan Royals and Suvidhaa.

Morris also revealed that their last year’s find — fast bowler Kamran Khan — who was called for chucking, has been cleared by the experts in Australia. “We have been sending players for correction in techniques as it is a part of program. He is looking good. As far as Kamran is concerned we have given our reports to the BCCI.

“He is looking really good. We are happy with it. We are in touch with the BCCI. All the reports have been sent to them. We are happy with the efforts he has put in and are happy with the reports,” he added.

The former FICA president said everyone is excited that the tournament is back in India. “We are in the contest to win the competition and are desperate to taste success,” he stated.
