Today we see many films being made on a whopping budget of over Rs 200 crore, however, not all such films are able to perform well at the box office. One such film, which was made on a huge budget, failed to recover its cost and emerged to be a disaster at the box office.

The film we are talking about marked the debut of a South actress and featured Star Kid as the lead. However, despite this, the film failed to impress the audience and failed at the box office. It is none other than Mohenjo Daro.

Mohenjo Daro is a period-action-adventure film written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur for UTV Motion Pictures and The Walt Disney Company India and Sunita Gowariker for Ashutosh Gowariker Productions, the film starred  Hrithik Roshan, Pooja Hegde and Kabir Bedi in key roles. The film marked Pooja's Bollywood debut, and though the audience much appreciated her performance, the film failed to make a mark at the box office.

Set in 2016 BC at the height of the Indus Valley Civilization the film follows a farmer Sarman (Hrithik Roshan), who travels to the city of Mohenjo Daro and falls in love with a high-status woman (Pooja Hegde), and who must then challenge the city's elite, and fight against overwhelming odds to save their civilization. The director of the film took 3 years to research and make the script. Made in Rs 120 crore, the film failed miserably at the box office and collected only Rs 107 crore.

According to reports, Hrithik Roshan charges Rs 50 crore for the movie at that time, which was almost half the budget of the film. After the film's failure, Ashutosh Gowariker didn't make any film for three years and when he came back with a film, titled Panipat, it proved to be a box office disaster. The film starring Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Sanjay Dutt failed to impress the audience. Ashutosh's next film, Toolsidas Junior, also failed to perform at the box office, however, it did win the National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. Meanwhile, Hrithik Roshan is working on his upcoming movie War 2 which also stars Jr NTR. Helmed by Ayan Mukerji, the film is a sequel to the superhit film War and is a part of the YRF spy universe.
