India made history on Saturday by achieving the highest team total in women's Test cricket during the one-off Test against South Africa. Surpassing Australia's previous record of 575/9, India reached this milestone on day two of the match.
The new record was set when Richa Ghosh hit a boundary off the first ball of the 109th over bowled by Annerie Dercksen. This momentous achievement was made possible by the outstanding performance of Indian openers Shafali Verma (205) and Smriti Mandhana (149), who shared a remarkable partnership of 292 runs - the highest opening partnership in women's cricket.
Jemimah Rodrigues (55), along with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa, who have both scored half-centuries, have also played crucial roles in India's success. The team's total of 525 for four on Day 1 was the highest single-day total ever recorded in a Test match, surpassing the previous record held by the Sri Lankan men's team in 2002.
