One ‘star kid’ has gone back to studies recently and quite late in their life too. Aditya Raj Kapoor, son of the late actor Shammi Kapoor and Geeta Bali, recently turned graduate at the age of 67. Aditya revealed that he resumed his studies in his early 60s and finally completed his graduation recently. This makes him the first man from the Kapoor family to complete college. Ranbir Kapoor had recently famously said that no man from the illustrious film family had gone beyond class XII in school.

Aditya has moved to Goa from Mumbai and recently completed hs Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). In a chat with Etimes, the actor-director said, “I had all the opportunities to study and just never took them. Over the years I realised my error. But that was not enough, it was only when I felt the emptiness within me that I realised the importance of a value education. Which brings me to my subject: Philosophy.”

Aditya Raj Kapoor leaving films for academics

Aditya revealed that he began studying again at the age of 61 and credited his daughter Tulsi for pushing him to get back to academics. Aditya said that he missed a few exams during the Covid-19 induced lockdowns but persisted with his attempts. Two weeks ago, he passed with 59% marks. Dedicating the degree to his mother, late actress Geeta Bali, Aditya added that he has now enrolled for MA.

Aditya Raj Kapoor’s film career

Aditya had begun his professional career as an assistant director in the 70s, assisting uncle Raj Kapoor in films like Bobby, and following up again as an assistant director in Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978), Geraftaar (1985), and Saajan (1991) among others. In 2007, he made his comeback as a writer-director with the films Don’t Stop Dreaming and Sambar Salsa. However, the films failed. In 2010, he made his acting debut with Chase and later also acted in Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 and a couple of other films. He last appeared on screen in Ashutosh Gowariker’s TV series Everest in 2015.
