Every year, the UPSC exam attracts a significant number of students from across the country. This highly competitive examination serves as a gateway for aspirants to become civil servants. While many aspirants take coaching classes to boost their UPSC preparation, some are unable to afford the high fees charged by coaching institutes but still manage to crack India's toughest exam.

Akash Chavda who hails from Jamnagar, Gujarat was just three years old when his mother passed away. His father used to work in a Gulf country. He could not leave his job and come to take care of his son. Neither was he in such a situation where he could take his son along. So, he had to make the challenging choice of sending his four-year-old son to a hostel.

Since a very young age, Akash has grown to live his life alone on his own strength. His father could rarely come to meet him.

In an unfortunate event, when Akash was 13 years old, he came to know that his father was also no more. At that time, he was studying in the ninth grade and had a sense of feeling that he would spend his entire life like an orphan in this hostel.

However, his life took a turn for the better when his cousin, a hardworking mason, extended a helping hand. His cousin not only provided him with a home but also lent him enormous support to finish his schooling and graduation.

In an interview given to Indian Masterminds,  Akash said that my cousins were everything to him. They taught him, gave him shelter, and raised him like their own child.

After completing his schooling in a Gujarati medium institution, Akash pursued engineering. It was during college that he first learned about the UPSC Civil Services Examination from his peers. Then he started preparing for UPSC while living in a two-room house.

His first attempt was marked in 2019 when he cleared the UPSC prelims but could not crack the mains.

After this failure, he decided to prepare for Gujarat PCS. However, he experienced failure there too.

After continuous failures, Akash never gave up and took the UPSC Group C exam. Finally, in 2022, he passed and became a State Tax Inspector. Now that he's found a job, he started to consider pursuing the UPSC again.

With rigorous preparation, Aakash again appeared for the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2023. This time he gained success as he passed the UPSC exam by securing All India Rank 1007.
