In conversation with shipping entrepreneur Jagdeep Chowgule who has launched Argentinean wines across the country

“If Moet & Chandon can come to the country, then something sure is happening!” says Jagdeep Chowgule on launching Tittarelli wines from Argentina in India. Director of Best Foods & Wine Impex, the shipping magnate has now made his foray into the wine industry.

“World wines are gaining popularity here and  people enjoy drinking wine. The wines I’m bringing are those that not many would have tried,” explains Chowgule in defence of his USP in an already established market.

The one place that encompasses the best characteristics for wine growing, Mendonza in Western Argentina is where his wine is produced. “The weather there is unusual; it’s on a high altitude near the Andes and no pesticides are used on the grapes. This is a huge advantage,” he says.

This is just the tip of the iceberg; Chowgule also plans to bring down Argentinean cheese, olive oil and meat. “By October, everything should be here. You get some of the best lamb there!” he enthuses.

Slated to be one of the more affordable international wines, Chowgule says, “The bottles will be in the range of Rs 400 to Rs1,200.” A relatively new industry, Argentina is the fifth largest producer of wines in the world.
