Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday is all set for a cabinet reshuffle at 6 pm, the first since assuming charges for a second term. The new cabinet, to be announced today will have a special focus on the representation of the underprivileged and tribal communities, as per media reports.

It is been reported that as many as 81 members will now be a part of the new cabinet. PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP Chief JP Nadda have held several meetings over the past few weeks in this regard.

The cabinet reshuffle is likely to take place with a focus on upcoming elections in five states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur next year.

The much-awaited expansion comes close on the heels of the completion of the Modi government's seven years in office. Currently, there are 21 cabinet ministers, nine ministers with independent charge, and 23 ministers of state in the union council of ministers.

What is expected

Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sarbananda Sonowal, Narayan Rane, Varun Gandhi, and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP)'s Pashupati Paras are among the likely new ministers who will find a berth in this new cabinet.

The new cabinet will be the 'youngest-ever' in India's history, top government sources say. The shake-up is also expected to bring in a greater share of ministries for OBCs (Other Backward Class).

There will be more women ministers and special representation will be given to those who have administrative experience, say the sources.

Government sources also say the revamped cabinet will include 'PhDs, MBAs, post-graduates and professionals', to bring up the average education level.

The Union Cabinet, which can have 81 members, currently has 53 ministers. This means 28 ministers can be added.
