With the deadline for compliance of state government's school bag policy for schools across Maharashtra getting over on Monday, the most likely scenario seems to be incomplete implementation. With officials concerned in the school education department refusing to answer to calls on the current status, as on Saturday a majority schools had not sent their policy implementation reports to the education commissioner.

A number of schools had come together on Sunday to discuss on how best to implement the policy. They made a few suggestions to the government, such as providing material for digitising classrooms, and making provision for water filters in schools and nutritious food for students among others. They are planning to submit the same to the state government.

An organisation, Shikshan Katta, had organised the Sunday meeting of teachers, school managements and parents from Thane and Palghar at Captain Oak High School in Kalyan. Principals said that not just schools but parents should also be held responsible after the policy is implemented, and for this, every school should hold one meeting with parents to create awareness among them.

The meeting was attended by MLC from teacher's constituency Ramnath Mote and policy suggestion committee member Ramesh Khanvilkar.

Other suggestions made were bringing back slate in schools, using foolscap papers for homework instead of books, keeping essay books in schools, forming committee in every school to monitor students bags, etc.

Shikshan Katta coordinator Anil Bornare said, "All suggestions will be compiled in a book, which our organisation will distribute in all schools. We want to hold a workshop for the parents on this policy because most of them are not even aware of it. Besides that, we too have suggestions for the government, including water filters and digitisation of classrooms. We will send the same to them in two days."
