A fierce gunbattle broke out today between top Lashkar-e-Taiba militants and security forces near the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district where three militants are holed up.

Acting on a tip off, police and army troops launched a cordon and search operation close to the highway at Manjote-Nachlana belt, 150 kms from Jammu, deputy inspector general (DIG), Ramban-Doda-Kishtwar range, Maneesh Sinha told Press Trust of India.

A fierce gunbattle broke out between the militants and the security forces, which was going on when the reports last came in, he said.

Three militants are holed up in the area, he said.

As per the reports, top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Kari Zubair is also holed up in the gunfight.
