The marriage of Brahmani Reddy, the daughter of mining baron and former Karnataka minister G Janardhana Reddy, to Rajiv Reddy, the son of Hyderabad-based businessman Vikram Deva Reddy, stands out as an example of extravagance and grandeur when we talk about lavish weddings. With a total estimated cost of Rs 500 crore, the November 6, 2016 ceremony turned out to be one of the most costly weddings in India.

To make his daughter's wedding an event to remember, Janardhana Reddy spent no money down. Over an amazing five days, 50,000 guests were treated to an exhibition of unmatched luxury. The focal point of the extravagant event was Brahmani Reddy's wedding dress, a brilliant red Kanjeevaram saree with gold threadwork. The saree, created by famed fashion designer Neeta Lulla, was estimated to be worth an incredible Rs 17 crore. The ensemble was a representation of luxury and tradition as well as elegance.

Brahmani's jewellery selections also generated conversation during the nuptials. Her bridal look was enhanced by a Rs 25 crore diamond choker necklace. Her entire collection of bridal jewellery, which included hair accessories, maang tikka, and panchdala, was valued at Rs 90 crore.

It was equally impressive how dedicated Janardhana Reddy was to making sure his guests were as comfortable as possible. He made reservations for 1,500 rooms in five- and three-star hotels in Bangalore, going above and beyond to ensure that guests had a sumptuous and comfortable stay.
The location itself was an artistic wonder, designed by Bollywood's art directors to mimic the ruins of the Vijayanagar Empire's capital, Hampi. Thus, among other structures, there were sections of the ground with replicas of the Vijaya Vittala Temple, Lotus Mahal, Mahanavami Dibba, and King Krishnadevaraya's palace. The dining area provided a distinctive and immersive experience, taking guests to a charming village in Bellary.

Up to forty royal chariots were used to transport guests around the event site; in addition, 2,000 taxis and 15 helicopters were scheduled to transport guests to the event.

Guests were also treated to a royal platter with sixteen delicious candies. The Reddy family's dedication to providing their valued guests with an unforgettable experience was evident in the meticulous attention to detail. The invitation, which was sent out months in advance of the wedding, was said to have cost Rs 5 crore and featured an LCD screen with a family-led choreography playing. There was also a silver idol of Ganesha in it.

But the show wasn't without controversy of its own, with many criticising Janardhana Reddy for what they saw as her excesses. Opponents of the political party and other organisations mobilised against the blatant display of wealth, posing concerns about responsible spending, particularly on the part of public figures.
