Star kids often get a bad rep because the general perception is that they get ‘undue’ help from their parents and those they are connected to. So, it does come as a surprise when we hear of a star kid whose career took a downturn after her own mother held a press conference against her. This happened in the 90s nipping a promising starlet’s career in the bud.

The actress who went against her superstar mother

Pratibha Sinha was born in the 1970s to Mala Sinha, one of the leading actresses of Bollywood from the 60s. Following in the footsteps of her mother, Pratibha entered the film industry herself with the 1992 film Mehboob Mere Mehboob. She appeared in a handful of Hindi films before making her Telugu debut with Pokiri Raja three years later. The following year, she shot to fame with an appearance in the song ‘Pardesi Pardesi’ in Raja Hindustani. But just when things seemed to be going for her, Pratibha’s personal life put a roadblock in her career. Pratibha was having an affair with composer Nadeem Saifi, who was married and had children. Mala Sinha was against this relationship but Pratibha persisted. In te late 90s, Pratibha eloped with Nadeem, shocking the entire industry.

In a recent interview, Nadeem himself revealed that things turned against him after he and Pratibha eloped. Mala Sinha held a press conference and accused the composer of kidnapping and raping her daughter. The veteran actress then used her connections in the police and the couple was found in Chennai and brought home. Not only did they split but Pratibha’s film career was also affected. Following this episode, the actress appeared in only a couple of films. Her last on screen appearance was in 2000 in the film Le Chal Apne Sang. Following her retirement from films, the actress quietly faded to a private life, vanishing from the limelight.
