Vivek Oberoi gained widespread attention and popularity following the release of his Bollywood movie Saathiya in 2002. However, his career suffered a decline afterward due to his movie choices, which failed to impress the audiences.

His personal life also made a lot of news which further impacted his professional career. In a recent interview, Oberoi revealed feeling unfairly treated by the film industry and spoke out about what he calls 'lobbying' within Bollywood.

In an interview with India News, Vivek Oberoi said, "I have been doing other businesses for a while now. There was a phase in my life where my movies were hit, performance was appreciated, yet for other reasons if you are not getting any role at all, when you become the victim of a system and lobby, you are left with just two options where you get all depressed or take it as a challenge and write your own destiny. I chose to walk on the latter path."

While speaking at the ‪India Global Forum,‬ London, Vivek said, "I got a lot of success, I was winning a lot of awards in my career and suddenly it evaporated because a bunch of people, who had a lot of power in Bollywood, decided 'You are not going to work here anymore, we will make sure that happens'. I experienced a lot of frustration and pain and anger and felt like a victim; and I didn't know how to deal with it."

He added, "My mom is somebody I really look up to. She's my hero. And she said 'Put your attention into being a hero to someone else and you will feel like a hero, you will feel like a winner'... the only way you can transition from being a victim to being hero is by being a hero to someone. So you start finding that someone that you can be a hero to."

In a 2003 press conference, Vivek Oberoi accused Salman Khan of threatening him because of his rumoured relationship with Aishwarya Rai, who had a history with Salman.

Aishwarya, who reportedly dated Vivek for several years, married Abhishek Bachchan in April 2007 and together have a daughter Aaradhya. Meanwhile, Vivek is currently married to Priyanka Alva, with whom he has a son and a daughter.
