Former US President Donald Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt, where he sustained only minor injuries. The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon) claims this was due to divine intervention by Lord Jagannath.

Iskcon spokesperson Radharamn Das connected this incident to Trump's past support for the first Rath Yatra in New York 48 years ago. He stated that Lord Jagannath returned the favour by saving Trump. “Yes, for sure it's a divine intervention. Exactly 48 years ago, Donald Trump saved the Jagannath Rath Yatra festival. Today, as the world celebrates the Jagannath Rath Yatra festival again, Trump was attacked, and Jagannath returned the favour by saving him,” said Das.

Notably, in July 1976, Trump had helped Iskcon devotees by providing his train yard for free to construct the chariots for the Rath Yatra. This gesture, according to Das, was repaid by Lord Jagannath during this year's festival. 

Das recounted the challenges Iskcon faced 48 years ago when organising the first Rath Yatra in New York City. Securing a permit for the parade on Fifth Avenue was a significant hurdle, and finding a large empty site to build the chariots seemed impossible. It was then that Donald Trump offered his assistance.
