In response to accusations of alleged power abuse, the Maharashtra government moved Dr Pooja Khedkar, a probationary IAS officer, from Pune to Washim. She is going to be the supernumerary assistant collector for Washim now.

Following a letter to the Chief Secretary from Pune Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase, this action was taken. The order stated, "The 2023 batch IAS officer will serve the remaining period of her probation as super numerary assistant collector in Washim district."

After asking the Collector's office for special rights that were not granted to probation officers, Khedkar courted controversy. Distressing the administration, she also drove her private Audi with a VIP number plate and a red-blue beacon light. In her personal vehicle, she had also put a sign that read "Maharashtra government." In addition, Khedkar made unjustified demands for accommodations, a constable, an official chamber staffed by enough people, and an official car with a VIP number plate.

Rules state that a trainee must be appointed as a gazetted officer before receiving any of the aforementioned benefits. That was not where Khedkar stopped, though. When additional collector Ajay More was away, she also took over his antechamber and posted a sign bearing her name.

Unauthorised removal of all materials, including couches, tables, and chairs, was carried out by Khedkar, who achieved an All India Rank (AIR) of 841 in the UPSC. Subsequently, she gave the revenue assistant instructions to furnish her with a letterhead, visiting card, paperweight, nameplate, royal seal, and intercom.

Reportedly, Khedkar's father, a retired administrative officer, threatened the officers with consequences and put pressure on the District Collector's office to comply with his daughter's demands. Pooja Khedkar, an OBC non-creamy layer citizen, rose to the rank of IAS officer, according to RTI activist Vijay Kumbhar. However, her father's election affidavit revealed that he was worth a staggering Rs 40 crore.

The activist said,"How can such income fall into the non-creamy layer? She has admitted to being mentally ill and a person with multiple disabilities. However, she skipped medical examinations several times. How did she qualify for IAS? These are big questions."
