NEW DELHI: With the cricket calendar getting more and more cramped, South Africa's star wicket-keeper Mark Boucher on Thursday said the ICC should look into the "burn out" issue of players and hold a discussion with the board and players of different nations to solve the problem.
"It's in ICC's interest to look after the players. So I feel its time for the ICC officials to sit down with the players and Boards of different nations and chalk out the future schedule of tournaments and try to solve the issue," Boucher said here.
On the ongoing Indian Premier league, Boucher said his team Royal Challengers Bangalore has struggled to find the right combination.
"We are still looking for the right opening combination. There are a lot of good players who want to play and it is becoming very difficult to pick up the winning combination. We are still looking for a structure," he said.
Boucher also termed the absence of Ross Taylor, who would be leaving soon for the Australian series, as a "big loss".
"It is a big loss to lose Ross at this crucial time. Ross has been in good form. He has been providing momentum to the team but I guess we can't help that. However, we have players like Misbah-ul Haq ready to jump in his position and play an important role," he said.
Referring to their lackluster performance in IPL as "frustrating", Jacques Kallis, who was also present at the press conference, said that things have not gone well for them so far.
"It is frustrating. We have made a couple of mistakes. One or two overs have not gone our way and we also have given away some extra runs in the field. We need to work on that and keep doing what we do best, that's what Twenty20 is all about," Kallis said.
When asked how he rates Rahul Dravid as a captain, Jacques Kallis said, the right handed batsman was a powerhouse of experience and was as good as anybody.
"He has lot of experience and is as good as anybody as a captain. He reads the game well," He said.
However, the Proteas all-rounder said it was rather difficult for a skipper to captain a Twenty20 match as it was the "toughest" form of cricket.
"It is difficult to captain a twenty20 game. There is no time to think, to act. It's undoubtedly the toughest form of the game," he said.
When asked if the overage of the players in the team was affecting their performance, Kallis said, "It is not true. Guys in the team are fit, we are doing rigorous training. Rather the mixture of youth and experience is working for the team; it is just that things have not gone well so far."
Kallis also rejected the notion that Twenty20 was a game designed for youngsters and said anybody who is fit can play this format.
"I don't believe it is a game of the young blood. Anyone who is fit and can play well, is good enough for this format," he said.
