A large number of college students of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad areas took part in different rallies on Tuesday to express their solidarity with anti-corruption crusader, Anna Hazare.

The youth were echoing their Gandhian leader’s demand for a ‘corruption-free’ India.

Students from various colleges, including Nowrosjee Wadia College (NWC), Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT) and Modern College, took to the streets in support for a stronger Lokpal Bill.

“We are voicing our support outside the campus as the college authorities did not grant permission to protest on the college premises,” said Rahul Bhosale, a second year student of NWC.
The students were seen wearing black ribbons on their arms to express their protest against Hazare’s arrest by the Delhi police.
Many students shouted slogans and displayed banners in support of Hazare on the MIT campus in Kothrud.

“Anna’s arrest has exposed the government’s weakness and tyranny. We want a strong Lokpal Bill to be passed and will give our complete support to Anna,” said Dhruv Ruparel, a second year MBA student of MIT.

Students were seen thronging Fergusson College Road. “We are expressing our support to Anna in a peaceful manner, without obstructing traffic,” said Sameer Sohoni, a first-year biotech student of Modern College, who was raising slogans against the Centre with a large group of students at Dnyaneshwar Paduka Chowk on Tuesday.

A large number of students gathered at the protest rally near Balgandharva Rangmandir in the morning before they moved out in groups to cover the entire city.

In the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, students of Pimpri-Chinchwad Polytechnic and Dr DY Patil College of Akurdi organised a rally in the morning. The peaceful match started from Akurdi railway station and ended in Nigdi after passing through Sambhaji Chowk, Bhel Chowk and Mhalsakant Chowk.

The protestors were holding posters and raising slogans like ‘Anna Tum aage badho, hum tumhare sath hain’ and ‘Vande Mataram’. Students of other colleges and pedestrians also joined the rally.

“Following Hazare’s message to give eight days of our life to the nation, we have organised the rally to awaken the spirit of people against corruption,” the students said.
