Puneites donate Rs55,000 for Japan tsunami relief

The Association of Friends of Japan (AFJ), Pune, handed over a cheque of Rs55,051 to the Mumbai-based consul general of Japan, T Mochida, as part of their Japan tsunami relief fund last week.

The Association of Friends of Japan (AFJ), Pune, handed over a cheque of  Rs55,051 to the Mumbai-based consul general of Japan, T Mochida, as part of their Japan tsunami relief fund last week.

In a press statement, AFJ said that the monies had been collected from common Puneites. AFJ had earlier donated Rs25,000 for tsunami relief through the Okayama Friends of Pune in March.

The press statement stated that other Japanese officials present at the function were deputy consul general M Shimizu and consuls, S Iida and Tashiro.

The Japanese officials told the AFJ that a 46-member Indian team from the National Disaster Response Force  was helping in the rescue operations in Japan. Mochida thanked the people of Pune for their support.

 AFJ has requested Puneites to continue helping the ongoing tsunami relief operations in Japan. Those desirous
