There are several instances of siblings of big stars not making it big in Bollywood. Some fade away after a few years, while others move to different departments of filmmaking, and others yet succeed later. But perhaps the most unfortunate of them was this young actress from the 80s, whose two sisters tasted success in the film industry. She, however, never succeeded and even courted a scandal in her death.

The superstar’s sister who failed in Bollywood

Reem Kapadia, the youngest sister of Bollywood star Dimple Kapadia, was an aspiring actress in the 80s. By the time Reem tried to make it as an actress, Dimple had returned from her sabbatical and embarked on her second innings. The third sister – Simple Kapadia – had also made her debut and was considered a bright prospect. Reem, however, never capitalised on her famous surname. In 1984, she auditioned for the film Lava but the role went to Dimple. Her next two films – Salma Seeta Suzy and another untitled film – were both shelved. Eventually, Reem made her debut in the sleazy horror film Haveli opposite Rakesh Roshan. The film bombed at the box office and sadly, was to be the only released film in Reem’s career. She signed for Naasamajh in 1986 but as per reports, was thrown out of it due to her alleged unprofessional behaviour.

Reem Kapadia’s mysterious death

After her films were shelved, Reem moved away from Bollywood. By 1990, she was living a reclusive life. On March 27, 1991, Reem was found dead at her Mumbai home. The official cause was an overdose of sleeping pills. Immediately after her death, there was speculation that her death may have been suicide but it was never substantiated.

When Reem battled a scandal even in death

After her death too, Reem’s name was embroiled in a scandal that broke out soon after. Some tabloids reported that her death may have been linked to the massive Hinduja International flesh trade scandal. The reports accused her of being complicit in the scandal. However, nothing was ever proven. Reem’s death was finally ruled as an accident due to overdose.
