Rohit Sharma's India will face off against Jos Buttler's England in the 2nd semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. India has maintained an undefeated record throughout the tournament, while England recently dominated the USA in their last Super 8 game.
Despite India's flawless performance so far, both teams have their own weaknesses, with India showing better ability to address and overcome them. Concerns linger over the form of key players such as Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja as they head into this crucial match. On the other hand, England has struggled to take early wickets in the Powerplay, leading to high opposition scores.
On a positive note, Jasprit Bumrah has shown remarkable improvement in this tournament, and his performance in the upcoming match is expected to have a significant impact. England, meanwhile, boasts a formidable batting lineup capable of overpowering any bowling attack on their best day. However, a potential vulnerability in England's lineup is the presence of five right-handed batsmen in the top seven, which could play into the hands of India's left-arm spinners Jadeja and Axar Patel.
Archer attempted a sweep shot but missed, resulting in the ball hitting his pads and the umpire declaring him out LBW. Despite his decision to review the call, the ruling stood, bringing an end to the match. With this decisive victory, India secures their spot in the final.
IND 171/7 (20)
ENG 103 (16.4)
Livingstone is out! There was a huge miscommunication between him and Archer. Archer hit the ball towards short fine leg, but Livingstone thought they could sneak in a quick run and started running. Unfortunately, Archer didn't react in time. Axar quickly grabbed the ball and threw it back, catching Livingstone way short of his crease as he tried to get back.
Sam Curran is out Lbw! It couldn't get any more straightforward than that! England's fifth wicket falls, and they've used up their review. Kuldeep delivered a length ball on off-stump, which turned out to be a wrong-un, leaving Sam Curran completely bamboozled.
Moeen Ali is out stumped! Another one bites the dust, and it's the 4th wicket down! Axar is dominating with the ball out there. He delivered a length ball on the leg-stump, and Moeen tried to work it into the leg-side. It just brushed his pad and rolled towards Pant. Moeen seemed unsure of where the ball had gone and took a step down off-balance. That was all Pant needed to grab the ball next to the stumps and knock down the leg-stump.
Philip Salt was caught off guard by a beautiful off cutter on off-stump. He wasn't ready for the slower delivery this time, so he backed away and swung too early. The ball ended up cutting towards leg-stump and hit the top of it.
FOUR! Full and in the slot, Buttler slices it over mid-off for a boundary on the first delivery. FOUR! England gets lucky with effective runs as Arshdeep holds back his length but misses the line, guiding the ball fine behind the keeper. After a couple of dots, Buttler swings hard at a slower ball to score his third FOUR of the over.
Arshdeep bowled over the wicket to Salt. Salt managed to flick the full ball on his leg side for a single to open his account. Then, Arshdeep bowled another full delivery, and Buttler attempted to drive it down the ground, but ended up edging it to the square.
Six runs! Axar hit a slower ball and sent it flying over deep midwicket for a maximum. Unfortunately, he was caught out on the next ball, hitting it straight to the fielder at deep midwicket. Arshdeep finished the innings with a single run.
Hardik smashed the slower ball over midwicket for a huge six. And then he followed it up with another maximum, drilling the ball over long-off. He was out on the next ball. Tough break for Hardik!
Shivam Dube departs on golden duck!
Suryakumar skillfully carved the ball over point for a maximum off the first delivery of the over. He expertly opened the face of his bat to execute the shot. Following suit, Rohit swept the ball over fine-leg for a maximum, bringing his total to 50 runs off 36 balls. Suryakumar then pulled a waist-high delivery in front of square for a boundary.
Rohit and SKY are currently emphasizing the importance of strike rotation. SKY executes a brilliant sweep shot past short fine leg for a boundary off a full toss delivery. The next ball is also a full toss, prompting SKY to sweep again, this time only managing to secure a single run.
Six runs! Kohli elegantly flicks the ball over midwicket for a maximum. Unfortunately, Kohli's innings comes to an end as he attempts to create space on the leg side, goes for a big shot, but misses and the ball crashes into the stumps.

India has lost two consecutive T20 World Cup semifinals, first against the West Indies in 2016 and then against England in 2022. This comes after their victories in the semifinals of the 2007 and 2014 editions. On the other hand, England has a strong record in T20 World Cup semifinals, winning all three matches while chasing. They have gone on to win the trophy twice, with their victory in the 2010 edition held in the West Indies being a standout achievement.
