Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD has opened to a thunderous response as the film has collected more than Rs 250 crore at the global box office within just two days of its release. The epic dystopian sci-fi action drama stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan in the leading roles.
Kamal Haasan is only seen briefly in the film as Supreme Yaskin. The superstar recently opened up on his limited screen time and also shared that he will have a major role in the sequel. "In Kalki, I have played a small role that makes an appearance for a few minutes only. My real part in the film has only begun and I will have more to do in the second part. So, I watched this film as a fan and I was astonished", Kamal said at a recent press meet in Chennai.
Appreciating Nag Ashwin for carefully handling the mythological aspects in the film, he added, "We have been seeing many signifiers that Indian cinema is moving towards global entertainment, and Kalki 2898 AD is one among them. Nag Ashwin carefully handled the subject of mythology without any religious bias. Across the world, only Japan, China, and Greek civilizations can come close to the Indian heritage of storytelling. Ashwin has chosen stories from that and has executed it with a lot of patience by bringing everyone together."
Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan is looking forward to the release of Indian 2 on July 12. The vigilante action thriller is the sequel to his 1996 action thriller Indian. The Shankar directorial will clash at the box office with Akshay Kumar's Sarfira, which is an official remake of the 2020 Tamil drama Soorarai Pottru.
