Director of Sairat, a recently released Marathi movie which is getting a storm response at the box office has approached the Mumbai Police Commissioner to seek legal action in the matter where the original copy of the movie got leaked on the internet two days before its release on April 29.

Nagraj Manjule who is the story writer, director, as well as the producer of the movie had submitted a written complaint to the Police Commissioner, Datta Padsalgikar and Joint Commissioner of Police (crime), Atul Kulkarni on Tuesday against the unknown accused involved in leaking the original censor copy of the movie.

In the complaint, Manjule has alleged that two days before the release, he came across some YouTube links depicting the pirated 3 GB copy of Sairat approved by the censor board. As soon as he learnt that the links went viral, he approached the police and asked for legal assistance and requested the commissioner to probe the case and trace the accused involved in the same.

Speaking to DNA, Kulkarni said, "Manjule, along with two other producers Nitin Keni and Nikhil Sane on Tuesday complained that two days prior to release the movie print has been leaked for piracy. We are investigating the matter and will engage the cyber police to probe the case from all the angles to trace the accused. We also need to find out whether this is a technical mistake or was deliberately done by someone. Very soon we shall come up with a conclusion and nab the accused. The complainant has considered this as a big financial loss done to him as well his production."

As per the confirmed reports, three pirated prints of the movie were made viral and later uploaded to YouTube out of which two were processed prints and the rest was the censor print.
Manjule could not be reached for comments.
