In a relief to residents in Colaba and Cuffe Parade residing parallel to the construction site of the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 corridor, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has started installing noise barriers at construction sites in the vicinity of residential areas to minimise noise levels.

This comes at a time after Cuffe Parade residents had taken MMRC to the court citing high noise levels during the night. Following this, the High Court had asked MMRC not to carry out work in the night between 10pm and 6am.

However, when DNA visited a construction site at Colaba Woods in Cuffe Parade, the contractor was installing noise barriers.

One of the representatives of the contractor told DNA, "We are installing noise barriers so that the residents are not disturbed due to noise during civil works."

When contacted, MMRC spokesperson denied to comment on the installation of noise barriers citing the matter as sub-judice.

Earlier, MMRC had directed its contractors to install noise-proof glasses on windows of two houses along the Metro-3 site in Andheri. This happeing after the residents had gone to court for to the same.

However, MMRC officials, not wishing to be named, said they are always working on trying to mitigate noise levels and conducting review meetings to minimise noise levels. Noise barriers are also being installed wherever necessary and they are being installed despite being a costly affair.
