Pankaj Dheer, who won millions with his character Karna in Mahabharat, talked about today's TV shows and revealed how a lot of 'undercooked actors' have come in on the basis of their social media fan following.

In an exclusive conversation with DNA, the actor also talked about the differences between the way actors, crew, and directors worked in the 90s and now. He said, “The first difference is that in the earlier days, it used to be weekly shows. The creative team had enough time to concentrate and work on an episode. Whereas, nowadays, it is like a daily scene. It’s more like a factory. And I don’t blame anybody, but it is humanly impossible for any writer to go on writing nonstop for months and years together on a daily basis. So definitely content is not as good.”

On being asked about what was called luxury on set in earlier days, Pankaj Dheer replied, “I tell you one thing, in those days we didn’t have even air conditioning. So, basically the idea was to do a good job and to be remembered for a lifetime, and we never bothered about AC, vanity vans, and all. We were very hardworking, we were very sincere and we always thought that if we had done a good job, then everything follows; name, fame and money. So the first thing was to do a good job. And now for that, we are still around.”

When the actor was asked to share his views on the impact of social media on an actor’s life these days, he replied, “As an actor, it has not changed but only the perception has changed because you see now everything depends on how many people are following you and how popular you are irrespective of the fact whether you are a good actor or not. And that is very sad, you are judged by the amount of followers you have and not by your performance."

"This is a very big disadvantage of social media and there are lots of victims of it. And I don’t know how this can be cured. A man should or a woman should always be known for the performance that the actor has given in series or in certain films. A lot of undercooked actors have come in because they are popular and famous," he concluded.

On the work front, Pankaj recently joined the cast of the popular TV show Dhruv Tara – Samay Sadi Se Pare which streams from Monday to Saturday at 8:00 PM only on Sony SAB
