Watch: 'Uncle' Joe Biden happily greets US Ambassador Eric Garcetti's daughter at Delhi airport

US President Joe Biden arrived in New Delhi on Friday evening for the G20 Summit. The 80-year-old president took his time getting off the plane as it landed on the runway. But when he did, he greeted everybody who had gathered at the airport to welcome him, including a young child. 

While he hurried down the stairs to find Eric Garcetti, the US ambassador to India, and MoS Gen. VK Singh enthusiastically awaiting him, he couldn't help but notice Garcetti's daughter Maya Juanita Garcetti. He gave the girl a hug and then began what seemed to be a much longer chat than the one he had with the adults there. 

The president then observed a welcome performance by traditional dancers. He waved at them, cheered, and then got into his presidential state vehicle, known as "The Beast." 

He will be staying at the ITC Maurya Hotel in the national capital. Outside the hotel, paramilitary and police officers have been stationed, and certain roads have been closed. According to reports, US Secret Service commandos would be stationed on every floor and in the hallways of the ITC Maurya hotel. 

“I'm headed to the G20 – the premier forum for international economic cooperation – focused on making progress on Americans' priorities, delivering for developing nations, and showing our commitment to the G20 as a forum that can deliver. Every time we engage, we get better,” Mr Biden wrote that he was headed to India for the G20 Summit.
