The continued success and popularity enjoyed by shows like Supernatural, The Walking Dead and American Horror Story proves there is a significant audience for horror television shows. An audience that thirsts for more frights, more chills, more edge-of-seat moments.
And films in the horror genre anyway have a loyal following. That could explain why TV producers are now seeking to marry the two and adapt popualr franchises for the small screen. There's enough raw material around for makers to spin some spooky fests. We list a few that we think would make for spine-chilling TV shows.

A Nightmare on Elm Street
Freddy Krueger's character is the manifestation of the ultimate fear. He not only haunted you in your dreams, but also could murder you in them. Suspense, thrill and gore coupled with a menacing character who haunts your dreams. It's the stuff of nightmares that could give you the chills and also makes for great TVviewing. Need we say more?

Fright Night
Vampires with a good heart? Well, we are not takers for that, we would rather see a stake driven through those menacing beings. And Fright Night is the ultimate combination of high school madness, vampires gone crazy and death toll mounting by the minute. Any horror enthusiast's dream come true.

Carrie
This 1976 horror flick was disturbing and yet scary in parts because of the magnitude of destruction unravelled on screen by a very edgy yet unstable character, whose introvert nature goes against her. The reboot to this one which was made in 2013 did not work for us but did find some takers for it. However, that does not mean a debut on the small screen can't work. Ever popular high-school drama combined with the struggle of a disturbed introvert possessing telekinetic power who is at odds with the world at large and a religious zealot mom who makes life even more difficult for her. It's complicated does not even begin to describe Carrie's situation but adapting it for the small screen could not get simpler considering the ready script available.

Dracula
Before Twilight and sparkling vampires, there was Count Dracula and there was nothing remotely romantic about him. He had a way with the ladies, but his seduction game had a heavy price to pay - life sucked out of you. Drac in his former glory minus the sparkles would be a welcome change. Especially considering the number of lifeless, cardboard caricatures of vampires we have been subjected to in contemporary horror 'literature' if we can call it that.

The Exorcist
The story of a possessed little girl who has no control over her actions, and a priest trying to help could probably be reworked for TV. In its new avatar, it can focus on a priest or a team of priests that are out there to rid the world of evil, demonic spirits wrecking havoc in ordinary folks life.

Already showing and some in the works
Sleepy Hollow a 1999 American horror film directed by Tim Burton was made for TV last year, while Bates Motel an American drama thriller was also made it to the smallscreen, it was a prequel of sorts to Alfred Hitchcock's film Psycho. Another scary flick Scream will make its small screen debut as Ghost Face.
