Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott strongly criticized the pitch used for their T20 World Cup semifinal against South Africa, stating that it was not suitable for a match of such importance.

The pitch at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy stadium provided challenging conditions with lateral seam movement and unpredictable bounce, making it extremely difficult for batters. This was evident as Afghanistan was bowled out for a mere 56 runs, marking the lowest score in a T20 World Cup semifinal at this venue.

Despite South Africa successfully chasing down the target in just 8.5 overs, their batters also faced difficulties on the same pitch.

"I don't want to get myself into trouble and I don't want to come across as bitter or it being a case of sour grapes but that's not the pitch that you want to have a match, a semi-final of a World Cup on, plain and simple," Trott said at the post-match press conference.

The former England cricketer expressed that the pitch effectively eliminated the possibility of batting in the game.

"It should be a fair contest. I'm not saying it should be flat completely with no spin and no seam movement, I'm saying you shouldn't have batsmen worrying about going forward," he explained.

"They should be confident in foot movement and be able to hit through the line or use their skills. T20 is about attacking and about scoring runs and taking wickets, not looking to survive."

During the tournament, the venue provided favorable conditions for fast bowlers with swing and seam movement, while also offering assistance to spinners with turn on the pitch.

Tarouba was the host of five World Cup matches, and only one team managed to score over 100 runs while batting first. The West Indies achieved this feat with a score of 149/6 against New Zealand, a total that was effectively defended by the co-hosts.

Afghanistan experienced a whirlwind of emotions and chaos in the 40 hours leading up to their historic first-ever semifinal appearance at a World Cup.

In a nail-biting must-win game against Bangladesh, Afghanistan secured a thrilling eight-run victory in a rain-affected match that extended into the early hours of Tuesday in Kingstown. Following their hard-fought win, their flight to Tarouba was further delayed by four hours, adding to the tension and anticipation surrounding their semifinal match.
