Chivalry is long associated with the characteristics of knighthood. It amounts to being courteous and valiant. But in the days of independent women believing that they can live without men, it’s hard for guys to realise that ladies do want to be treated like princesses. Though many women still seek Mr. Chivalrous, men on the other hand state that although they believe in the concept, they feel they are making futile attempts at being courteous when their actions go unnoticed and unappreciated by females.
On one hand you have a woman who waits for the man to walk ahead of her and open the door, while on the other you have the gentleman who does open the door for her, only to have his date shout at him that she doesn’t need his help.

DNA asks a few celebs what they feel about the situation today:

Milind Soman (Model/actor)
“Yes, chivalry is alive but it’s a misunderstood term. People feel only men have to be chivalrous to women, but that’s not true; chivalry doesn’t need to be categorised. It can be men-to-men, women-to-women. It basically is the extension of caring.  If we care for someone and be courteous, then we are chivalrous to them. It really depends on how one treats others. So I don’t think it’s dead but yes, it has lessened.”

Anusha Dandekar (Actor/singer)
“Chivalry is alive but it is certainly practiced less. Now a days chivalry just is used for the convenience of a person — men use it when they have to impress a girl, while women like men who treat them at par but love the ones with a dash of courteousness. Chivalry may not always be about opening doors but many other things too. Guys need to figure that out. Being chivalrous should come from within and not to impress someone, therefore I say chivalry is conveniently alive.”

Sahil Shroff (Model)
“I feel chivalry is almost dead; it’s a trend that is not very existent in today’s times. Though I am chivalrous, I feel it comes from the kind of upbringing one has had. I see so many people around who really need to respect women. Chivalry means nothing but respecting everyone, not just women. It is also important to understand that one needs to treat oneself well in order to treat others well. Chivalry is a strong quality when it comes to being a good social being. So definitely I can say that chivalry in people has  diminished for sure.”
