Encouraged by extension of the deadline to September 21, citizen groups are now gearing up to utilise the extended period for filing the most number of suggestions. After dna’s campaign, the online suggestions for the participatory budget increased and the number of suggestions crossed the 650 mark on Tuesday.

Earlier, the deadline for filing suggestions for participatory budget was September 10, however the Pune Municipal Commissioner (PMC) extended the deadline for filing the forms to September 21.
Citizen groups have already started preparing a plan to increase participation for the exercise.

Aundh Vikas Mandal held a meeting on Tuesday and chalked out a plan to prioritise the work to be suggested through participatory budget.

The members included Girish Deshpande, Nagesh Chavan and Rohini Nagwankar from panel 8, Dorothy Mascarenhas and Vaishali Patkar from panel 7 and Dhananjay Rao, Sarayu Sanghavi and Veena Agarwal from panel 9.

After the brainstorming session, members of the committee listed 15 points that are needed in different panels of Aundh area.
The members have listed four common works that need to be carried out in all the panels.

Deshpande said, “The four common works include public toilets, bus stop refurbishment with display of bus stop name, bus routes with timings and footpaths and steel bollards on footpaths to prevent parking on footpaths. Now our members will be creating awareness in their respective panels and they will encourage citizens to file the maximum suggestions based on these common points.”

Naim Keruwala, project consultant for Janwani, who is promoting the participatory budget concept said, “Till last week there were around 150 online suggestions. But the number has started going up and till Tuesday, there were 650 online suggestions.”

Keep track of projects

If you want to track the works included in last year’s budget under participatory budget, you can go through Pune Municipal Corporation’s budget. It has a separate section on participatory budget and in case of any assistance, citizens can contact Janwani that has partnered with dna. They will help track the works for their respective prabhags.
