This actor, who faced rejection initially, later became the acting coach of stars like Hrithik Roshan, Sonam Kapoor, and Sushmita Sen.
Every year come to Mumbai with the dream of being an actor, however, not everyone is able to fight the competitive industry and reach the top. One such actor, who came to Mumbai to become a star, faced several rejections, however, he later became an acting coach.
The actor we are talking about started his journey with a small role in LSD: Love, Sex Aur Dhokha. He then went on to teach Hrithik Roshan, Sonam Kapoor, and Sushmita Sen acting. He is none other than Vinod Rawat.
Vinod Rawat was born and brought up in Kidwai Nagar, South Delhi. The actor is the son of a driver and after failing his class 12th exams, he started selling computer peripherals on the streets of Delhi. After he cleared his education through correspondence, he got into the fast-food joint, which he described as his “true college”.
The actor revealed in an interview with Indian Express that he used to work at McDonald's and said, "I started as a crew member and then I became a floor manager around 2002-04. This meant I was no longer a cap guy, it was a job upgrade, and one could handle stores after that. I was there for two years, and I only did night shifts. No one in my family is associated with acting but I would mimic 30 actors and at least 10 cartoon characters."
However, he later quit his job which paid him Rs 25000 per month to join theatre in Delhi and later earned only Rs 500 per month doing theatre. In the same interview, he also revealed how Rajkummar Rao helped him get settled in Mumbai and said, "It was in Kshitij Theatre Group in Mayur Vihar that I met Rajkummar Rao! In a way, he is my mentor. He got into FTII and once he came back, he got the form for me, explained me the procedure He moved to Mumbai before me and helped me even with housing, where to stay!”
He recalled how he faced several rejections when he started auditioning and was told that he is 'not fit' for the role. However, this didn't break his confidence. He later became the acting coach of Sonam Kapoor for Neerja and the film became a huge hit Sonam's acting was also praised by the audience. It was then that he got noticed by Hrithik Roshan who handed him the script of Kaabil and this is how he became Hrithik Roshan's acting coach.
Apart from this, Vinod has also taught acting to Sushmita Sen for Aarya and Radhika Apte for Phobia. He later ventured into direction and directed Sushmita's comeback series Aarya which became a huge hit. He is recently grabbing headlines for his recent release Pushtaini which also stars Rajkummar Rao and is available to watch in theatres.
