Not all actresses, who came with a dream to be the top heroine, achieved success. One such actress, who was once Sridevi’s rival, later got restricted to only doing mother roles. The actress we are talking about worked with many superstars including Shah Rukh Khan, and Salman Khan, and has given several superhits. However, she could never become a top heroine. She is none other than Reema Lagoo.

Reema Lagoo was born to actress Mandakini Bhadbhade famed for the drama Lekure udand Jaahalee. The actress started her acting career as a child actor and appeared in five films including Masterji. Later, after completing her secondary education, Reema Lagoo went on to work in Union Bank of India for 10 years. While doing her job, she appeared in television and films and participated in the inter-bank cultural events. She started her acting career with the Bollywood film Aakrosh. However, she became a household name because of her stint in television.

In 1985, the actress made her television debut with the show Khandaan and then starred in shows like Shrimaan Shrimati, Tu Tu Main Main, and more and became a star in the 90s. The actress then starred in several hit films like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Maine Pyaar Kiya, Aashiqui, Henna, and more. The actress mostly got roles as a mother in the films.

Later, in Gumrah, the actress played the role of Sridevi’s mother, however, according to reports, when the film was in post-production, Sridevi got insecure after seeing her acting and asked the director to cut Reema’s scenes. Sridevi was reportedly scared that Reema Lagoo might take away her limelight in the movie.

The actress gave several hits and blockbusters including Hum Aapke Hain Koun!, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Judwaa, Prem Granth, and more and though she became Bollywood’s favourite mother, she could never become a top heroine. In 2017, the actress had been shooting for the television series Naamkarann till 7 p.m.  After she complained of chest pain later that night, she was taken to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, however, she passed away due to cardiac arrest.
