Sometimes we don't know what the other person is going through until something big happens. Today, we will talk about one actress who was always seen smiling, making others laugh but left everyone in shock when her suicide news came.

We are talking about Pratyusha Banerjee (10 August 1991 — 1 April 2016), an Indian TV actress known for her roles in various shows and reality programs. She rose to fame in 2010 with her lead role as Anandi in Balika Vadhu.

In 2013, she participated in Bigg Boss 7 and emerged as one of the most popular contestants.

Earlier life:

Pratyusha Banerjee was born into a Bengali family in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, to Shankar and Soma Banerjee. Her father is a well-known social worker and runs their own NGO. In 2010, she moved to Mumbai to pursue her acting career.

Career:

Pratyusha Banerjee began her career with a supporting role in the show Rakt Sambandh and later played Vaani, the best friend of Akshara (Hina Khan), in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai on Star Plus. In 2010, she was selected for the lead role in the Indian TV series Balika Vadhu, portraying the adult version of Anandi and replacing Avika Gor.

She was chosen through a talent hunt, beating contestants Nivedita Tiwari from Lucknow and Ketaki Chitale from Mumbai. After the show's success, Banerjee joined Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (season 5) but left due to discomfort during dance rehearsals. In 2013, Pratyusha Banerjee was a prominent contestant on Bigg Boss season 7. She later appeared on Power Couple with her partner Rahul Raj Singh.

Death

On April 1, 2016, Pratyusha Banerjee was found dead by hanging in her Mumbai apartment at the age of 24. The postmortem report stated the cause of death as asphyxia.

However, her parents alleged that she was murdered by her boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh, and that her death was falsely portrayed as a suicide. They also filed charges against him. In 2018, Rahul Raj Singh filed an application before the Dindoshi sessions court in Mumbai seeking to be discharged from the case. In his application, Rahul claimed that Pratyusha's parents had taken substantial loans in her name, and her inability to repay these debts led to frustration and her tragic decision.

Her maid, Renu Sinha spoke about the abusive relationship that the Balika Vadhu star was in. She revealed that despite having a substantial bank balance, Pratyusha Banerjee sometimes had to borrow small amounts of money from others for cab fare and medicines. This was because Rahul Raj Singh was managing all their finances, according to statements made to a leading daily by someone named Sinha.

Sinha who worked for the couple for three months and was living in the same house, said, "At odd hours in the night, I used to hear raised voices from the couple's room. I wanted to rescue Pratyusha but didn't know if it was right to interfere in a private matter between them. Whenever Rahul left home, I would coax Pratyusha into telling me everything. She spoke of Rahul accusing her of having an affair with her former boyfriend."

Her parents now:

Pratyusha Banerjee's father, Shankar Banerjee, revealed in a recent interview with AajTak. He stated, “After this accident, it seems as if some terrible storm has come and has taken everything away from us. We did not have a single penny left with us. We have lost everything while fighting in the second case. We are now forced to live in one room. This case took away everything from us. Many times, there has been a situation where we were forced to take loans.” While his wife is working at a child care centre, he writes stories. Pratyusha's father stressed that he won't give up on his daughter even now.

Rahul is happily married now

After Pratyusha Banerjee's death in 2016, Rahul, who faced accusations and a legal case, was granted anticipatory bail by the Bombay High Court three months later. In an interview with The Times of India, he said, "Like anyone else even I wish to live a happy life. I also want to overcome my loss and move on with happy memories. No one wants pain and sadness in life. I'm married for two years but still waiting for the right time to start a family. My parents and wife have a lot of hope in me. And I want to keep them happy as they supported me in my hard times. They trusted me.”
