India is set to face off against England in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024 in Guyana on Thursday, June 27. The match holds particular significance as the Asian powerhouse seeks to avenge their previous defeat at the hands of Jos Buttler's team, who secured a convincing 10-wicket victory over India in the previous T20 World Cup semi-final in Adelaide.

India has been showcasing a fearless and aggressive style of cricket, as demonstrated by their dominant performance against Australia in the final Super 8 match. However, the unpredictable weather conditions in Georgetown could potentially disrupt what promises to be an exciting match-up.

The weather forecast for Georgetown, Guyana, on the day of the second semi-final is not promising. Overnight rain and continued rainfall on matchday have left the outfield saturated with water, as the groundstaff failed to cover the entire ground. Despite these challenges, the Providence Stadium in Guyana boasts one of the best drainage systems in the Caribbean islands, providing hope that the match will proceed as scheduled.

Weather forecast

Rain is forecasted for the entirety of the contest in Georgetown, Guyana. The MetOffice has indicated that there is a possibility of showers escalating into heavy rainfall by noon.

The morning of the scheduled toss at 7:30 pm IST and 10 am local time was met with rain two hours prior

Is there any reserve day?

Unfortunately, there is no reserve day allocated for the second semifinal match. The final is set to take place at 10:30 am on Saturday in Barbados, which is why the ICC has chosen not to schedule a reserve day for the second semifinal in Guyana. However, there is a provision of 250 additional minutes to ensure that the game can be completed on Thursday.

Cut-off time

The deadline for a 20-overs match has been extended to 12:10 am IST (Friday), providing an additional 250 minutes of flexibility for officials to commence a full 40-overs game. This extension allows for the match to begin as late as midnight (IST).

In contrast to typical regulations, overs will not begin to be deducted until 12:10 am, which is four hours and 10 minutes after the originally scheduled start time. The cut-off time for a 10-overs-per-side match is 1:44 am IST (Friday).

It is important to note that a minimum of 10 overs per side is required for a valid result to be determined. Both teams must complete at least 10 overs each in order for the match to be considered complete.

Who will qualify if IND vs ENG gets washed out?

India will advance to the final if the semi-final is cancelled or abandoned without a result. This is due to India's superior performance in the Super 8 points table, where they remained undefeated. In contrast, England suffered a loss to South Africa during the Super 8 stage.
