A video showcasing the world’s fastest train has recently gone viral. In the clip, the train accelerates to an astonishing speed of 431 kilometres per hour within seconds, leaving passengers awestruck. The video, posted on Instagram, provides a glimpse inside the train. Passengers are seen fixated on the speedometer above the door, with their excitement growing as the speed climbs.

This extraordinary train is the Shanghai Maglev, or Shanghai Transrapid, which operates in Shanghai, China. Utilising German Transrapid technology, this magnetic levitation (maglev) train was the first commercial high-speed maglev in the world.

The Shanghai Maglev connects Shanghai Pudong International Airport with the city, offering passengers a quick transfer option to the Shanghai Metro.

This line is distinct from the Shanghai Metro network and runs on its own dedicated route to the airport. The journey spans 30 kilometres (18.6 miles) and takes just 8 minutes and 10 seconds. The train can accelerate to 300 km/h (186 mph) in a mere 2 minutes and 15 seconds, and could reach its top speed of 431 km/h (268 mph) in 4 minutes.
