Karisma Kapoor, who is celebrating her 50th birthday today, needs no introduction. The actress belonging to the influential Kapoor family of Bollywood is the daughter of actors Randhir Kapoor and Babita Kapoor and the elder sister of Kareena Kapoor Khan. One of the most popular and highest-paid actresses of her time, Karisma Kapoor made her acting debut with the film 'Prem Qaidi' in 1991. She went on to work in many hit films and appeared as a leading lady in the top-grossing romances 'Raja Hindustani' (1996) and 'Dil To Pagal Hai' (1997), establishing her as a superstar.

Karisma Kapoor began her acting career despite disapproval from her father. Randhir Kapoor was against his daughter working in films because he believed it contradicted the conventional maternal duties and responsibilities of women in the family.

While Karisma Kapoor's professional life remained successful, the actress struggled immensely when it came to her personal life.

Karisma Kapoor dated Ajay Devgn from 1992-1995. The couple broke up after which Karisma Kapoor got engaged to Abhishek Bachchan in 2002. The engagement was soon called off with no reason given for the breakup.

In September 2003, Karisma Kapoor then got married to Sunjay Kapur, the CEO of Sixt India, in Mumbai. The couple had two children - a daughter and a son. However, the marriage did not last for long. In 2016, after two years of struggle, Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur got divorced.

After her marriage, Karisma Kapoor put her career on the back burner and decided to concentrate on her kids and family. She was once quoted as saying, "It (acting) is ingrained in you. It is something that never goes away. I was waiting for something really interesting. It was out of my choice that I didn't do any film because my kids were very young. I wanted to be at home with my family and children."

On the work front, Karisma Kapoor was last seen in Homi Adajania's mystery-thriller, 'Murder Mubarak'. She recently also completed her second web series, 'Brown'.
