The 30-year-old right-arm pacer's exceptional performance saw him dismiss Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan (2) off the final ball of the 18th over, followed by the wickets of Karim Janat (13) and Gulbadin Naib (0) on the first two deliveries of the 20th over. Tim David took catches to dismiss Rashid and Janat, while Glenn Maxwell secured Naib's catch, thus completing Cummins' historic second hat-trick in the tournament.

Cummins had previously claimed his first hat-trick just two days earlier against Bangladesh in Australia's first Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2024. His double hat-trick achievement underscores his exceptional skill and accuracy under pressure, elevating him to a unique position in cricketing annals.

The Australian Test and ODI captain finished the match against Afghanistan with figures of 3 wickets for 28 runs in his allotted four overs, contributing significantly to Australia's effort in restricting Afghanistan to 148 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs.

Cummins' feat not only cements his status as a world-class bowler but also places him alongside a select group of players who have achieved multiple hat-tricks in T20Is. He joins the ranks of Sri Lanka's Lasith Malinga, New Zealand's Tim Southee, Serbia's Mark Pavlovic, and Malta's Waseem Abbas as the fifth player in history to achieve two hat-tricks in T20 International cricket.

With nine wickets to his name in four matches thus far in the T20 World Cup 2024, Cummins continues to be a pivotal figure for Australia as they progress through the tournament. His exceptional form and historic achievement have undoubtedly set a new benchmark in the fast-paced world of T20 cricket.
